Newborn Session Specifics

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy!

Being a mom, I know how tough it is to get dressed and ready to face the world just days after giving birth (sometimes almost any day, for that matter!). And I realize that you will have just done it to take your baby to that two-day check up! But please trust me when I say that it’s TOTALLY worth the stress to get these first few days captured for a lifetime. It only takes a few hours, and you might even enjoy the break away from all the visitors! Once your baby is not sleeping heavily and is more alert, you’ve missed all those snuggly brand new baby images and sadly, you’ll never be able to get them back!

The best time for a newborn session is while your baby is sleeping. This is why you’ll need to prep your baby for his/her session. Please wake your baby several hours before the scheduled time and keep him/her awake! (Don’t listen to grandma or Aunt Suzie when she tells you to “never wake a sleeping baby.” This is serious business, and their advice must be thwarted!) Keeping baby awake can be challenging. You may want to try feedings, tummy time, stripping baby down to his/her diaper, gently wiping baby with a damp washcloth, keeping baby in bright sunlight (which is also good for jaundice!), place baby so s/he can stare at a ceiling fan or light, etc. You might find yourself getting quite creative!

When packing for your session, please bring everything you’d bring in the diaper bag for a day trip including extra diapers, wipes, bottles, pacifiers (even if your baby doesn’t seem to really like it yet, please have one on hand!), change of clothing for baby as well as mom and dad. Accidents happen. A lot. Be sure to grab any sentimental items you’d like to try and incorporate into the images as well (blankets, hats, baskets from baby’s nursery, etc.). Please schedule your session based upon your baby’s heaviest mid-morning nap, and have baby naked, newly fed and changed at the scheduled appointment time.

Dress for your session in neutral colors.  Gray, tan, beige, off-white, pastels, and khakis all photograph softly and look fantastic.  Also wear light makeup and bring along that tummy-slimmer and tank tops too!  Make sure dad wears a belt, and if he's ready to go topless, that will make me super happy.  There's nothing better than a whole lot of skin in newborn photographs.  Simplicity is key.

Your final images will be retouched for various elements including redness, bruises, scratches, stray hairs, etc. The images will be in the likeness of the images posted on the website and by scheduling and paying for your newborn session, you grant Organique Photo total artistic control over the final images.  I understand that my style of photography is not everyone's cup of tea.  I will not be offended if you don't want pictures of your baby's nakey bum.  Please don't book me if you don't like my style.
